DEFECT...A surf film by FORMER.

Directed by founders Dane Reynolds and Craig Anderson. Featuring the full FORMER surf team including Ben Howard, Shaun Manners, Jake Kelley, Jay Davies, Kaito Ohashi, Gabe Morvil, Dion Agius, Dillon Perillo, James Kusitino, Timo Simmers, Matt Hoy and Kai McKenzie.

DEFECT has been a project of labour and one of love... but also one of liability. Over the course of making this film we've dealt with broken bones, snapped ligaments, punctured lungs, bleeding mouths, hospital waiting rooms, rehab sessions, and scars we're taking with us. But that all became part of the story.

Premieres across the world. Theatres, cinemas, carparks and rooms filled with people who turned up to support this film. This film crossed oceans, filled hard drives, broke bodies, and took more than anyone expected. And now it's everyone's to enjoy.

A full length film that documents a process that was anything but controlled, but turned out to be our most rewarding to date.

Way back in 2023 – one of those lifetimes in the skateboard landscape – we covered the baseball game release party of Rowan last shoe. We spoke with Rowan about a few topics including the tricks he did on his favorite double-set, considering the video a sort of mini “Favorite Spot,” with plans to do something longer form with him in the future.<br /><br />Blink and it’s been three years since. A lot has changed – with skateboarding, the world, and Rowan.<br /><br />Rowan himself promoting his Z3 Vans pro model while recovering from a torn ACL and recently becoming a new father. In the middle of all this (or perhaps because of it?), the opportunity to make-do on our loose promise to shoot a more involved thing arose. When you’re hurt, time becomes a whole different thing, its passage slowing to excruciating levels. It seemed like a perfect opportunity for the pilot of a potential (if anyone else is down to hang) new series.
