So we planned a day full of skating at the spot, stuff for tricks, a flea market, tattoos, drinks, and food — as the foundation for a get-together to celebrate this silly little culture of ours.<br /><br />In the end, that’s exactly what it turned out to be. The weather was perfect, and it was sick to welcome locals, friends, and people who took long-ass drives just to hang out for a day. Thanks to the support of local skate shops and companies, we were able to give away boards, trucks, wheels, and other stuff to kids and hand out drinks in exchange for donations..."

Antonio Pekovic and Matko Erkapic video part at ALM DIY in Vienna, Austria <br /><br />"My buddy Matko Erkovic and I made a video part at our newest local DIY park in Vienna that was built about half a year ago called the "Alm DIY".<br /><br />It is the third time this DIY has been built, since it had been demolished twice, but this time the city finally allowed it to stay as a permanent skatepark<br /><br />It was built by the local DIY crew, including skatepark builders Spoff Parks and the St. Marx DIY crew, with the help from volunteers like myself and others from the skate community here in Vienna. <br /><br />The whole part was filmed within three months on weekends because of our work schedules.<br /><br />Edited by Matko Erkapic and Antonio Pekovic.

Her body of work spans nearly two decades covering heavy metal and punk rock music, and DIY skateboarding communities. <br /><br />Her newest feature documentary, Concrete Law, chronicles the seven-year bureaucratic battle to legalize the iconic Channel Street Skatepark (streaming distribution 2026).<br /><br />The fight to save Channel Street became the spark for a broader mission—Save DIY, a movement that April now carries forward through visual storytelling, advocacy, and film.<br /><br />Through Save DIY, she helps to amplify the issues surrounding skateboarding and urban equity. Nine days, four dudes, one dog - 3600 kilometers of asphalt, tent poles working overtime, and a bunch of pools and DIYs punched into the GPS. This time we hit the South of France. First stop from Berlin was Stuttgart, to check out the Nord DIY – now buried under Stuttgart 21 construction. At least the workers recycled the concrete for free. Then on through Basel’s Portland DIY, Lyon, a private pool in Marignane near Marseille, the legendary BBC DIY close to Montpellier, a haunted house spot near Grenoble, and finally the highest skatepark in Europe up in Chamrousse. Way back through Freiburg and Kassel – the trip had it all. Again.<br /><br />With us: top-tier Greifi homies – Schlonzi, Leroy, Flo and me – plus Julia, our four-legged co-pilot and breaktime supervisor.<br /><br />Mission goal: collect fresh stories for the next fire barrel session.<br /><br />Pretty early it was clear: this ain’t gonna be no wellness retreat. No flats, no showers, no plan B. We slept outdoors, dug poop holes with a shovel. Nature raw. And honestly – wouldn’t want it any other way.<br /><br />Video / edit: Henrik Loos @henrikloos
