Danzig is the brain child of legendary punk and heavy metal front man, Glenn Danzig. While overwhelmingly well received by the public upon the release of its self titled debut album in 1988, the group was immediately noted for its departure from the sound that fans had come to expect from the irascible singer. Danzig's previous group, The Misfits and Samhain, had come from a solidly "punk" frame of reference, while the new group was a deliberate throwback to the halcyon days of 1970s hard rock and metal music, i.e., groups such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Bloodrock, and the like. Over the years, the group has enjoyed notable success with several key singles, including the Grammy winning live rendition of its signature song, "Mother", which was included on the group's platinum selling release, "Thrall/Demonsweatlive". While the group has remained a top selling concert attraction, Glenn Danzig himself has also branched out into other areas beyond music. One of his most notorious ventures is his line of graphic novels, released under his own Verotik imprint.
