“This is a difficult video to write about and the first time I’m speaking publicly about it, but her it goes- I spent most of 2023 on the injured list, but was working on a Cult part with Grant C between injuries. Finally getting to a somewhat healthy place in November, I started really shifting gears with filming and gettin some tricks I was psyched on… unfortunately that all ended in a horrific slam on November 25th where I sustained a burst fracture in my spine causing temporary paralyses and the need for emergency surgery.<br /><br />Some VERY dark times followed between a multiple night stay in the ICU and having to navigate home life with a walker, catheter, excruciating pain and a newborn baby. So many people deserve praise for their help during this time, but there’s no way I could’ve gotten through this without my wife. She became a 24/7 caretaker for our infant daughter and myself… how much she stepped up during this time cannot be overstated.<br /><br />This project is a combination of a video part filmed prior to the crash, and a short documentary on my injury and life for the 4 months following. On a much more positive note, I’m 5 months post injury and have made a pretty miraculous recovery thus far. I’m blessed to say getting back to riding isn’t too far off in the future and I’m working hard every single day to make it happen. Thanks to all who support me and like what I do, it means SO much. Watch John John Florence's Perfect 10 at Margaret River.<br /><br />Two-time event winner Florence looked destined for a third CT victory at the 2024 Margaret River Pro as he began to display some of the incredible surfing he has become known for at Main Break after a slower start to his campaign.<br /><br />The two-time world champion dominated the Semifinals, posting a Perfect 10-point ride, as well as the highest two-wave total of the event with an 18.40 (out of a possible 20).<br /><br />He looked to be building in the final but wasn’t able to find the waves he needed to earn a third CT victory in Western Australia.<br /><br />The result was enough to lock Florence in at world no. 3 as he aims for a top 5 finish and to contest his first-ever WSL finals later this year.<br /><br />The day also witnessed Florence post his 52nd excellent score at the Western Australia Margaret River Pro. <br /><br />“It’s so exciting to be in the final against Jack again after our matchup in 2022,” Florence said.<br /><br />“It felt like it was happening again and to have it happen in waves like these is pretty amazing. Jack and I are good friends and have been for a long time, but obviously, when the heat starts, we’re competitors, and we want to win."<br /><br />"It’s a fun rivalry where we want to put on a good show and a good heat so we have good battles. I’m feeling super good at the moment. I’m super stoked to be surfing and be healthy and be surfing in the finals here again and just be back in WA.
