The Surf Boardroom Surf League 2023 Highlights

In an electrifying display of Western Australia's grassroots surfing prowess, Trigg Point Boardriders Club emerged triumphant at the 31st Surf Boardroom Surf League, proudly presented by Rip Curl.

The Surf Boardroom Surf League is one of Western Australia's premier surfing competitions that showcases some of the state's finest surfing talents. In a record-breaking turnout, nine different clubs brought their A-game, resulting in a day filled with exciting surfing action, as well as mateship, team spirit, loyalty, and comradery.

The competition's fierce spirit was matched only by the picturesque backdrop, as summer-like conditions at Scarborough Beach saw sunny skies, better-than-expected surf, and a packed beach that soaked up the truly unique atmosphere that Surf League has grown famous for.

Surf League's unique competition format saw clubs nominate their six strongest surfers (4 x Open-age surfers, 1 x Over-35 master, and 1 x Under-18 junior), with each surfer's best two scores added together for an overall team total.

As the temperature rose, so did the performance level, with surfers slicing and dicing the waves at Scarborough to pieces in hopes of reaching the Surf League final.

Trigg Point's surfers displayed unmatched dedication, commitment, and skill throughout the day, with clutch performances from Luke Campbell, Fletcher Llanwarne, Jack Mickle, Seb Pellizzon, Jesse Siedmiogrodzki, and Tom Bissell securing the club's first Surf League win since 2020.

Surfing enthusiasts and spectators flocked to the event and were treated to an unforgettable display of athleticism, pride, and passion, with Trigg Point claiming victory over rivals Margaret River, Yallingup, and Scarborough Beach at the end of a seesawing 90-minute final.

Trigg Point finished on a combined total of 59.77, just 0.7 ahead of Margaret River on 59.70, with Yallingup on 55.55 and Scarborough on 43.47.

Trigg Point's power surfer and club stalwart Luke Campbell was elated with the win and couldn't speak highly enough of the Surf League and the opportunity it provides for WA boardriding clubs.

“I've been doing the Surf League since I was 14, and it's so great to have a big turnout of clubs here today,” he said. “We're super happy with how today went. Thanks to Geoff and Wayne from the Boardroom for keeping this event alive for so long, and we can't wait for the next one.”

The 31st Surf Boardroom Surf League presented by Rip Curl was a resounding success, celebrating the vibrant surfing culture of Western Australia and highlighting the talent of the surfers in grassroots bordering clubs. The event would not have been possible without the support of the Surf Boardroom and the dedication of all participating clubs, surfers, and event organizers.

“We couldn't be prouder to be supporting this event for over 30 years,” said the Surf Boardroom's Geoff Counsel. “Congratulations to Trigg Point and all the clubs in the final, as well as the new clubs competing here today. There's something special about this event and what it promotes through the WA surfing community.”
