Back in 2017, the founders of Doyenne saw a void in their local scene and quickly mobilized to fill it. Seeing a lack of diversity and representation at skate parks, the streets, and, most importantly, the absence of a safe space for new skaters to express themselves, they started by organizing a skate meet-up in the brand’s hometown of Glasgow, Scotland. The impact of those early sessions sparked their project to become a full-fledged brand with the goal to represent and inspire the community around them and abroad.<br /><br />As a women-led brand, Doyenne acts as a collective entity comprised of skaters, artists, activists, and creatives, using the brand as the rallying force to mobilize and amplify women and non-conforming genders in skateboarding. Flickers on the road. Like a flame dancing towards a dream. What is the purpose of this dance and adventure? Are we getting closer to something, or are we simply getting further from who we used to be?<br /><br />Do the lines in the road countdown to a supposed arrival? Or are they added up within us, allowing us to grow?<br /><br />Movement is all it takes to keep the flickering flame lit. This flame is the illuminator of we. The fuel to the furnace of our hearts. Even in the dark allowing us to see.<br /><br />They say; "it's not the destination, it's the journey." And it's true. Only on the journey, the road, the adventure of this life does the flame grow and shine brighter. That we may be hypnotized by the passing lines, and informed as to what is, and who we are. If a "destination" exists, it exists in the dark. An illusion to help us move in a particular direction. The mirage on the horizon that seems so important until our supposed arrival. If an arrival exists. <br /><br />The flickers represent the individual steps taken towards a dream. It doesn't matter if we move by air, land, sea or even by imagination, as it's the present moment that is the destination. Let each passing line be the invitation to a brighter day. The flickering flame. It's amazing what the road can say. If we have the patience and attention paid. Walk, run or sit, and let the yellow flickers lead the way...<br /><br />On this journey, we venture back to New England. A former home turned upside down. These particular roads travelled countless times, rendered completely new with fresh eyes. Familiar small mountains and hills remain more mysterious than ever. A new appreciation for the snow covered overhanging trees on the two lane roads that meander towards each "destination." The stone grey days somehow radiate a warmth that screams of "home." Whatever that means. All things change, as do I. <br /><br />The objective is to exist among. To stare into the mirrors of the eyes, and hope they stare back with the same open hearts. Nic von Rupp has won the 9th annual Perfect Chapter/Capítulo Perfeito at Carcavelos Beach, Portugal, by defeating Pedro Boonman (2nd), William Aliotti (3rd), and Aritz Aranburu (4th) in the final.<br /><br />Carcavelos Beach dished a day of punchy, barreling waves for all 16 contenders.<br /><br />Ultimately, the 32-year-old Portuguese surfer claimed the top honors in an all-European final, also taking the Best Portuguese Surfer and three-time Champ awards.<br /><br />By posting the only 10-point ride in the competition, von Rupp also took the Best Tube award.<br /><br />Despite failing to revalidate last year's title, Aritz Aranburu was one of the standouts nabbing the highest heat total of the main event (14.25 pts).<br /><br />Also, hats off to 15-year-old Matias Canhoto, who won the New Generation Special Heat with an 18.40 total, the day's best score.<br /><br />Finally, Brazilian surfer and former Perfect Chapter champion Bruno Santos bagged both the Worst Wipeout award and the Ricardo dos Santos trophy (meant to highlight the most passionate and consistent contender) after experiencing one of the most dramatic moments of the event - three consecutive massive wipeouts in his semi-final heat.<br /><br />Just a few days from the end of the waiting period, the Perfect Chapter powered by Billabong hit the water today in epic conditions, with Carcavelos Beach proving once again to be a world-class surf destination.<br /><br />Apart from the athletes mentioned above, Clay Marzo, Tiago Pires, João Mendonça, Torrey Meister, Pedro Calado, João Moreira, Michael February, Adrian Buchan, Adriano de Souza, and Miguel Blanco also took part in the competition.<br /><br />2023 Perfect Chapter/Capítulo Perfeito | Results<br /><br />Final<br /><br />1.
