2022 Quemao Class | Surfing | Day 1 Highlights

The first day of competition of the 2022 Billabong Quemao Class ended, leaving behind impressive rides.

As expected, the wave conditions have improved even more throughout the day, and the competitors have made the most of them.

The action started with the first round of surfing, with Basque athlete Natxo González and the French Marc Lacomare setting the level and finishing their heats with the best morning scores.

The reigning champion, Natxo Gonzalez, showed that he is back to defend the title with a spectacular wave of 9.60 out of 10.

He also said this is "a very special event for me, with brutal waves."

Canary Islanders Luis Díaz and Yael Peña also stood out, leading in their respective heats.

"The first heat was difficult, but I ended up very happy. The wave conditions are expected to improve throughout the day, so I'm looking forward to getting back in the water", said Luis Díaz from Gran Canaria.

Frenchman Marc Lacomare took full advantage of the good conditions and earned 8.17 points for one of his waves.

The day wrapped up with the first surfers set for the semifinals.

Canarian surfers Díaz, Jonathan González, and José María Cabrera seem to be unstoppable alongside Portuguese Miguel Blanco.
