This was easily the best day I've seen at Uluwatu since returning to Bali. The wind was light offshore keeping conditions glassy all morning, and there was a perfect size swell running.

The waves are definitely busier than when I was last in Bali, but it's not totally out of control just yet - we'll see what the season brings.

If you're interested in surfing Uluwatu, don't forget to check out our Uluwatu Surf Guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEZwp00h6LQ&t=278s

If you would like to support us, please buy us a coffee here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/infowy

OUR AMAZON STORE: https://www.amazon.com/shop/globalzoo-surfingvideos?ref=ac_inf_tb_vh

GEAR WE USE FROM AMAZON:

Our camera: https://amzn.to/3XHjiMe
Our drone: https://amzn.to/3HauKJg
Our main lens: https://amzn.to/3Jo9qCU
Our other lens: https://amzn.to/3Ji9XWW
Our main tripod: https://amzn.to/3Y6yUZG
Our second tripod: https://amzn.to/3Hh9EsJ
Our second tripod head: https://amzn.to/3WPpsbQ
Our camera bag: https://amzn.to/3HdvTzH
The laptop we edit on: https://amzn.to/3Hdwb9L
Our external hard drive: https://amzn.to/3Y2lJc0

_____________________________

Social media accounts:
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/global.zoo.co/?hl=en
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Global.Zoo.Co

_____________________________

DISCLAIMER
Some of the links above are affiliate links, where I earn a small commission if you click on the link and purchase an item. Christian Brown gets launched into low earth orbit at the Wedge. Video by Dingo.

Big wave surfing is practiced around the world at places like Jaws, Nazaré, Mavericks and Waimea Bay but usually during the winter months when powerful storms in the Northern Hemisphere generate massive groundswells that hit northwest-facing coastlines. On the other hand, the Wedge, located in Newport Beach, California, is biggest in the summer months when swells generated deep in the Southern Hemisphere (during their winter) make the long trek north, traveling for a week or longer and crossing the equator before finally breaking. While the Southern Hemi swells are drained of some of their power after the 5,000+ miles from their source near Antarctica, the unique configuration of the Wedge jetty causes a reflection pattern that takes a piece of the first wave's energy and crosses it into the next wave's face, making it often close to twice the size of other SoCal spots on certain summer south swell days. Certain times of the year the beach is also left steep as sand shifts around which produces a backwash effect as waves run up the berm and bounce back out. This clip is a fine example of all the Wedge mechanics coming together to do something unusual and entertaining....

I start each video the same way, I pick 2-5 DV tapes (in order) from my Transworld DV drawer. I read my log book and find out what’s in store for the next video. I line the deck up with the time code that coincides with what I have written down, and the memories start flowing. I’ll fiddle with the order depending on just how gnarly the tricks are, BUT these videos are chronological in the sense that I do not skip around to different tapes just to find “gnarlier” tricks to make the edits better. These edits play very closely to how the footage got recorded on each tape and what time frame I filmed each trick.
More memories,
The makeshift bump to ledge in SF was such a good night. I would carry around one sheet of 4 x 8 plywood that I cut in half length and width. I put a piano hinge on both pieces so it could fold up into my truck, but it was still a full sheet. I'd use it for landings or making a curb ramp for me when I was filming. This night it was a jump ramp. I remember back then this was such a "NO NO," making a bump out of something you brought / didn't find; that wasn't a good look. But if the skaters didn't care I didn't either, clips were clips. The spot looked rad and so did Pat, Stefan and Omar. Stanford sessions hardly ever worked out. Stefan got a clip with Liam in tow, Stefan brought Liam everywhere, he was such a good little dog. Filming that bluntslide shove-it of Van on the Walnut Creek rail was epic, very before his time. Even going through this tape and seeing him do the boardslide fakie then quick revert—SO COOL! His style and attitude will always be etched in my mind. I remember one night in Miami we were out skating around (no filming) and he told me, "You got a good push." It made me so happy to hear that, I never forgot it. Thank you Van, we miss you.

Featuring:
Pat Duffy @pduffplanb
Stefan Janoski @stefanjanoski
Omar Salazar @omarsalazar
Van Wastell @vanwastell
Mike Anderson @mikeanderson
