Tweed Heads surfer/shaper Ben Webb has made a name for himself crafting iconic alternate surfboards for the past 13 years. Webby honed his skills watching his dad, Greg Webb the founder of Shaping Co, shape countless board’s for the coast’s best surfers. Today, he is well-known for shaping his own iconic surfboards.<br /><br />When Webby isn’t in the shaping bay, you’ll find him testing his designs along the Northern NSW/Gold Coast stretch of coastline. Pits, carves, airs and everything in-between, Webby has a model to suit. <br /><br />Webby recently invited Creed McTaggart to the bay for a first-hand experience, shaping him one of his well know ‘Vault’ models. The two later took the 6’2 with purple rails for a surf. “The board felt good. Nice long rails, for drawn out turns with a pulled in tail with glass in fins. It felt like I was never going to slide out. How do we recap a night like GWAR!?!<br /><br />No, for real - we couldn’t document much & even if we did, it would be too crazy to share on our website. This is no surprise to the GWAR fans, their shows are a bit wild with showmanship and sprays of fake blood & well, let’s say other worldly discharge.<br /><br />The show started like any other, outside The Rialto Theatre - a long line filled with excitement and impatient fans. Once through safety checkpoints for health and booze, it was a full barge to claim a spot closest to center stage.<br /><br />The anxious crowd ran straight into Phoenix locals set, THRA! They kicked off the show with high energy carnage. We’ve been lucky enough to see ‘em perform multiple times and gotta say this night was one of the best!<br /><br />After THRA, EYEHATEGOD took stage & holy s#it!, pun intended, did they keep the show goin’. Seriously set up and slayed so fast, you couldn’t even grab a drink.<br /><br />Slight settling after EYEHATEGOD. This was perfect downtime to visit the CowtownS.K.A.T.E. & Tucson Skatepark Alliance booths. Both nonprofits were playin games and raising funds for their missions! <br /><br />Whilst outside we heard a soft English voice rambling… Everyone rushed inside full force toward the stage! They knew that ‘soft voice’ lead to the absolute chaos that is Napalm Death! The pits went so wild, you could feel it across the street in Congress.<br /><br />Drumroll please… The crowd silently waits. Suddenly all the blood, guts and glory that is GWAR takes the stage! Within the first 10 minutes a well choreographed mutilation blasted the crowd with blood. Truthfully, the crowd didn’t catch much of that one, they centered attention on the stage front security guard… He was a trooper though, all smiles. <br /><br />Wish we could speak and show more from their set but as we prefaced, it was just too brutal!<br /><br />Huge thanks to everyone that came out to show their support & party with us!<br /><br />Thank you Rialto Theatre for having us, Cahleb Branch for all your help, GWAR, Napalm Death, EYEHATEGOD & THRA for an absolutely amazing show.
