Movement analysis and more attention to proper technique and stability prior to adding strength and power are increasingly important in keeping surfers injury free and addressing weaknesses that lead to injury.<br /><br />At a recent Toyota USA Surfing junior team training session, USOPC biomechanist Kevin Ashley and USA Surfing director of high performance analytics Tracy Axel logged several hours of surfing footage from elite surfers on the East and West coasts to use in identifying areas surfers can gain more mobility and torque in their maneuvers.<br /><br />The effort will use Artificial Intelligence to capture, analyze and identify movement patterns in hundreds and eventually thousands of waves surfed. This will allow trainers, orthopedists and physical therapists to gain key pieces of information the human eye might miss.
