For 2021, it is clear that the boot and binding makers in snowboarding have collectively put their best foot forward by putting the experience of your feet at the forefront of their dedicated designs. Comfort, customization, and control are paramount in this selection of our favorite new bindings and boots, and after a week at Mount Hood putting each piece of gear through the paces at Timberline Resort, we can confidently say that each brand’s meticulous technology and features work together cohesively in pursuit of the best carving experience possible. Staying connected to your board is about much more than tightening a few screws—quick response and long-lasting comfort come down to the cohesiveness of your boot, bindings, and board. So, check out the 2021 edition of SNOWBOARDER’s Two Feet of Fresh and perhaps you will find the boots and bindings that will give your season a leg up, even when you’re going downhill.

Tech Highlights:
- UU Fit
- F.T.M. Versa Toe Strap
- Honeycomb Strap Ver. 2.0

MSRP: $240
Website: www.flux-bindings.com

Flux says:
C.O.R.E. - Community Outreach Riding Equipment. This binding was designed in collaboration with team rider Erik Leon. The intent behind this model was to lower cost and use sustainable materials while still providing the highest level of performance.

SNOWBOARDER says:
As part of the first collection of Community Outreach Riding Equipment products, the Flux CO was designed with Flux team rider, Erik Leon to meet not only the demands of his snowboarding sensibilities but to align with the standards of CORE. To this end, the CO is a high-performance binding at an affordable price that is constructed using sustainable materials and techniques. Notably, the CO has a natural color and features CORE logo graphics; devoid of dyes, pigments, and other unnecessary elements, Flux was able to reduce production cost and pass that savings directly onto the customer. The all-around response of the CO is designed for all-mountain riding making it the perfect fit for any rider with a freestyle mindset, even when their turns take them out of the park. This is partly due to the Super Tough Nylon highback, which is narrow in the middle, wide at the top, and has a medium flex that is ideal for support and response on any terrain. Aiding in this effort is Flux’s proprietary UU Fit, a 360-degree hold that securely hugs your boot and applies uniform pressure—i.e. the CO provides all-day comfort while you’re spinning laps. Importantly, the strap system is secure and versatile. The F.T.M. Versa Toe Strap is made of a soft, flexible material that can be used as a toe strap or foot wrap and is designed to fit any boot. The Honeycomb Strap Ver. 2.0 on the ankle utilizes a lightweight honeycomb structure that holds your foot in place securely while mitigating shock when landing or riding through chunder.

Judging by the effortless way that Erik Leon rides whatever lies in front of him, the Flux CO performs. What’s even better is that by strapping into the CO as your go-to binding, you’re contributing to the well-being of the snowboarding community—through supporting an affordable, sustainably-minded initiative—while having a good time ripping turns.

For the latest from Snowboarder Magazine check out:
https://www.snowboarder.com/
Facebook - https://sbdr.co/Facebook
Instagram - https://sbdr.co/Instagram
Twitter - https://sbdr.co/Twitter
YouTube - https://sbdr.co/YouTube

2021 Two Feet of Fresh: Flux CO Binding

Each year as summer turns into fall, we can rest assured that our favorite companies will release a selection of snowboards designed to enhance our experience on hill. At this point, with the abundance or shapes, lengths, camber profiles, edge and sidecut variations, core designs, and more sustainable materials at an all-time high, it’s possible to get precisely the board you are looking for, whether you’re interested in towrope park laps, early morning pow runs, holding an edge on hardpack, or all of the above and then some. From true twins designed for the jib line to big-nosed powder guns ready to drop in post-storm, to shore and wide decks that are designed for a bit of it all, the hardest decision may be whether you want to add to your selection of situation-specific boards or if a quiver killer is in the cards for your season—maybe the answer is both. To help get you started in your search of what board to add to your stash this winter, here are fourteen of our favorites that run the gamut in size, shape, and style.

Feature Highlights:
• Asymmetrical Shape and Flex
• Asymmetrical MidBite
• Camrock 2-4-2
• Uninc History-Based Graphic

Sizes: 151, 154, 156, 159
MSRP: $549.95
Website: www.yesnowboard.com

YES. says:
This board is an asymmetrical twin, updated for 2021 with Asymmetrical MidBite technology. This allows for amazing turning and carving capacity. It is wider under your feet, but narrower between your feet, which allows the rider to have bigger feet and stomp big tricks better, without compromising the way the board turns and responds.

SNOWBOARDER says:
Taking cues from the iconic UnInc series that YES. founder David Carrier-Porcheron helped to make infamous in the aughts, the YES. Greats Uninc infuses its namesake’s unruly aesthetic into a high-performance deck designed to destroy the entire mountain. The Greats Uninc’s penchant for high-speed maneuverability starts with its asymmetrical twin shape and asym flex profile. New for 2021, this favorite board in the YES. lineup has been updated with Asymmetrical MidBite technology, which means the board is wider underfoot and narrower between the bindings, with a deeper sidecut on the heel edge for increased edge hold, smooth carving, and stability on landings. The Greats Uninc infuses a freestyle sensibility into an agile, all-mountain ride due to the response and snap of the Camrock 2-4-2 camber profile, which is traditional between the feet and reverse on the nose and tail. A core made of a combination of poplar and paulownia with two bamboo stringers that run lengthwise is light and further increases pop. And finally, in homage to the original Uninc, the board’s art showcases the ethos and iconic graphics of the movement, highlighting DCP’s continued contributions to snowboarding.

For the latest from Snowboarder Magazine check out:
https://www.snowboarder.com/
Facebook - https://sbdr.co/Facebook
Instagram - https://sbdr.co/Instagram
Twitter - https://sbdr.co/Twitter
YouTube - https://sbdr.co/YouTube

While we all have a unique point of view when it comes to our preferences in on hill eyewear, we can definitely agree that seeing clearly is paramount when in the mountains. To this end, SNOWBOARDER took two pairs of our favorite goggles to Timberline Resort on Mount Hood, Oregon last summer with Danny Kass and Isabella Gomez in tow, in order to put these frames (or lack thereof) through the paces in a variety of light conditions. After a week lapping the Palmer Snowfield, it was easy to see that the below goggles feature advanced technology for discerning variations in terrain, no matter the conditions, and are adaptable on-the-go with easy lens swapping, too. This is the 2021 Goggle Exam.

Tech Highlights:
- EXV+ Frameless Design (Expansion View Technology)
- Toric VIVID lenses with Optics by ZEISS
- Quick-Change Magnetic-Assisted Lens System

MSRP: $270
Website: www.giro.com

GIRO says:
Designed specifically for the core rider, including park riders, pipe riders, backcountry riders and both men and women.

SNOWBOARDER says:
If seeing is believing, we’re disciples of the Giro Contour, a new 2021 addition to Giro’s goggle roster that combines streamlined style with an expansive field of view. To achieve an ultra-wide POV, Giro employed their Expansion View Technology, or EXV+ Frameless Design, which is a proprietary, semi-spherical lens curvature that allows for a wider purview than ever before. Of course, clarity, contrast, and definition are enhanced via Giro’s Toric VIVID lenses with optics by Zeiss, the brand’s patented lens tech that enhances on-snow surroundings without color oversaturation while improving reaction time and reducing eyestrain. To meet the demands of changing light conditions, the Contour features Giro’s Quick-Change Magnetic-Assisted Lens System, a new feature that uses self-locating magnets for lightning-quick lens replacement and secure hold once the lens is in place. Add in a plush feel against your face and helmet compatibility and the Contour has the style and function needed for a season of seeing clearly. Plus, it’s been put to the test both in and out of bounds by Darcy Sharpe, Gabe Ferguson, and Sebbe De Buck—a hard-charging trio that demands peak performance from their eyewear.

For the latest from Snowboarder Magazine check out:
https://www.snowboarder.com/
Facebook - https://sbdr.co/Facebook
Instagram - https://sbdr.co/Instagram
Twitter - https://sbdr.co/Twitter
YouTube - https://sbdr.co/YouTube

Combine Union's strongest baseplate ever built with all-new Vaporlite High-Density bushings, a stiff Duraflex CB highback, the rapid response of Exoframe 3.0 ankle straps, and you've got yourself the #1 choice of professional snowboarders like Kazu Kokubo and Arthur Longo. Designed, tested, and trusted by the best snowboarders in the world.

SNOWBOARDER says:
If you’re looking for direction on what binding you should purchase for the 2020-21 season, make sure to check out the Union Atlas. This season’s top-of-the-line Atlas has been redesigned from the bushings to the ankle and toe straps in order to exceed the demands of hard-charging riders, including Union team members, Kazu Kokubo and Arthur Longo. First up in the Atlas’ upgrades is the Stage 7 Atlas Baseplate, an all-new, ultra-responsive baseplate that is the Union’s strongest ever, engineered using Duraflex CB nylon. The baseplate is paired with the Atlas Baseplate Subframe, which utilizes a stiffer material to add an additional layer of nuanced reaction and response to the binding, ramping up the connection between you and your board when you’re laying into turns or making quick movements. Additionally, the Atlas excels at navigating technical, natural terrain as well as lines through the park, thanks to the new Vaporlite HD Bushings, which are stiffer and more responsive than previous iterations, while still providing excellent dampening on landings and in mixed conditions. While the Union Atlas has plenty of get up and go, it doesn’t skimp in the comfort department either. New Exoframe 3.0 Ankle Straps and TS-3.0 Ultragrip Wide Toe Straps are secure, lightweight, and easy to ratchet—which means that while it’s easy to unstrap, after a few runs in the Union Atlas, you probably won’t ever want to.

For the latest from Snowboarder Magazine check out:
https://www.snowboarder.com/
Facebook - https://sbdr.co/Facebook
Instagram - https://sbdr.co/Instagram
Twitter - https://sbdr.co/Twitter
YouTube - https://sbdr.co/YouTube

Her vetted riding ability and knowledge of the terrain is elegantly translated in her design.

SNOWBOARDER says:
British Columbia-based boarder Marie-France Roy has long been a luminary of style and grace, a master of etching turns in the backcountry and uncovering new lines on technical terrain. When it came time for her moniker to be applied to a binding, the Arbor Sequoia—a light and strong alpine asset—was a natural fit. The Sequoia Marie-France Roy Edition is designed to deftly handle all terrain, starting with the System X Baseplate, which strategically affects the binding’s direct contact with the board, limiting it to the disk and convergence zones in order to create a more natural flex underfoot, reduce binding flat spots, and eliminate the impact that bindings have on a board’s flex. In short, this means that the connection between you and your board is smooth and responsive. Arbor’s Women’s-Specific Asymmetrical Highbacks have a 5-degree pre-rotation for an ergonomic fit and freedom of movement, while also contributing to the transfer of energy through turns. Long days at the mountain mandate comfort, so Arbor’s new-for-2021 Dual-Injected Ankle Strap hugs and supports your feet with a form-fitting, dual density bow strap specially designed to stay out of the way when you’re sliding your foot into the binding tray at the top of a run. While we’d call these bindings evergreen, as their technical features are sure to make these MFR favorites a quiver staple, it’s not going out on a limb to say that you will be thorough by planting your feet firmly in a pair of Arbor Sequoias.

For the latest from Snowboarder Magazine check out:
https://www.snowboarder.com/
Facebook - https://sbdr.co/Facebook
Instagram - https://sbdr.co/Instagram
Twitter - https://sbdr.co/Twitter
YouTube - https://sbdr.co/YouTube

The Union Trilogy is a women's-specific classic that comes equipped with a responsive Stage 4 Duraflex ST baseplate, supportive Trilogy highback and new for 20/21, the super lightweight Exoframe 2.0 ankle strap. Take on the entire mountain and more with the Union Trilogy.

SNOWBOARDER says:
When a binding is backed by both Jamie Anderson and Jess Kimura, you can trust that it will provide power and response wherever you find yourself making turns. From the jump line to the streets to powder-laden steeps, the Union Trilogy has been put through the paces by some of the best snowboarders in the world for over a decade and remains a time-tested favorite for all terrain. The Trilogy features Union’s Stage 4 Duraflex ST Baseplate, a strong, female-specific plate designed for charging. The Trilogy Highback is a long-standing icon in Union’s canon of binding design; it provides ample flex while remaining responsive and strong, able to harness energy and board connection when driving turns. New for 2021, Union has enhanced the comfort of the Trilogy by adding Exoframe 2.0 Ankle Straps, the brand’s most popular ankle strap, to the chassis. The Exoframe 2.0 is extremely lightweight, provides instant response, all-day comfort, and season-long durability. While we might not all be dropping into X Games slope contests or launching backcountry cheesewedges, we can benefit from the tech that keeps Jess and Jamie connected to their boards.
