This month Carhartt WIP Radio brings you Violet – a DJ, producer and record label owner from Lisbon, Portugal. Since 2010 she has released music that flirts with techno, house, breakbeat and hip hop on labels like One Eyed Jacks and Paraíso from Portugal, Love On The Rocks from Berlin, her own label naïve, and its subdivision naivety.

Last year she dropped “Bed Of Roses,” her first solo album, on the San Francisco-based imprint Dark Entries, highlighting her talent for producing an album with a story arc in which introspective synth spheres and cinematic ambient sounds jack with techno, hip hop, dancehall, electro, R&B, dubstep and absorbing pop particles. As well as releasing music, she is also a globe-touring DJ who is known for sets that bring techno into new break-laden territories.

For Carhartt WIP Radio Violet prepared a show comprised of her own music in a way that, in her words, “represents her the most.” As always, we also sat down with this month’s host to discuss musical influences – from The Neptunes to Bon Jovi – her career to date, and what it means to make music in the midst of a pandemic.
