We decided to give our staff a break this week and hand the 100 Kickflip Challenge over to a pro. Leo Romero paid a visit to the CCS office last week and we talked him in to giving us 100 kickflips in a brand new pair of his Romero Laced Shoes from Emerica. It turns out there’s a reason he’s got his name on a board. Leo did 100 kickflips in a row with out stopping or stepping off his board once. He didn’t want to break his momentum until he hit 100 and because of that, we had a microphone malfunction in the process. As you can clearly see, the shoes did great, but sadly we don’t have audio commentary on the end result. We speculated as to what was said though, and probably nailed it. Roger Steffens (b. 1942) is a Brooklyn, New York-born actor, author, lecturer, reggae archivist, photographer and producer. Steffens began photographing while serving in the Psychological Operations division in Vietnam, a period during which he began a journalistic record of his surroundings marked by an increasingly psychedelic lens. Steffens photographed extensively throughout his life amassing an archive of over 300,000 images – the near entirety of which had never been seen publicly before 2013 – when his children, Kate and Devon Steffens, began publishing the photos on Instagram under the name The Family Acid. <br /><br />The Family Acid is the first book of Steffens’ photographs. Spanning 40 years of Steffens’ life and culled from over 40,000 chrome photographs, The Family Acid presents his often transcendent vision and life as a psychedelic pioneer on the order of Timothy Leary and Hunter S Thompson beginning with his work in Vietnam and moving through his ever revolving circle of friends and characters made up of Rastas, beatniks, musicians, artists, gonzo journalists, his family, and himself.
