This issue is our biggest adventure yet. We throw some really wild people, sounds, design and photography at you in this one. We got David Carson to dial up and design a cover over a Charles Peterson photo from Endfest in Kitsap Washington taken in 1991. David and Charles are both people you should look up. But you’ll also find their wise words throughout the new issue.<br /><br />Beyond that we talk with photographer Darren Ankenman. We wrote the “last thing we’ll ever write about Kolohe Andino.” We talk to Mark Healey. Flea. Show you a different side of Nate Lawrence. And Warren Smith makes Bali his canvas and showes it in a new way.<br /><br />It’s something your coffee table deserves more than your heels. The big wave charger was very much a part of the Santa Cruz surf culture. As one of the most progressive surfers, he paved the way for the sport alongside Ken 'Skindog' Collins, Darryl 'Flea' Virotsko, Jason 'Ratboy' Collins, and others in the crew of Westsiders. One of the heaviest breaks in the world, and certainly the west coast, Mavericks was a part of Barron's stomping grounds, competing several times in the competition and well known for his massive free surf sessions.<br /><br />Recently, Barron spent much of his time volunteering with the Mauli Ola Foundation to teach children with Cystic Fibrosis how to surf. He also enjoyed painting in his free time when he felt inspired.<br /><br />The entire surf community is shocked of the news of Shawn 'Barney' Barron's death, and will never forget his vibrant personality, and impact on the sport of surfing. <br />___<br /><br />The Surf Channel is an original, free, ad supported television network delivered on cable, satellite and IPTV services, web and wireless.
