After many events finishing runner-up to some of the best athletes in the world, Joel Parkinson claimed his very first ASP World Championship title today at the Billabong Pipe Masters. Parko was able to lock down the win after Josh Kerr (AUS) took down 11x World Champion, Kelly Slater (USA), in the Semifinals. After an emotional champagne shower mid-competition, Parko continued surfing his final heat on to defeat Josh Kerr in the final heat to win the 2012 Billabong Pipe Masters 2012 in Memory of Andy Irons. The awards ceremony recognized Sebastian Zietz (HAW) as the overall Vans Triple Crown winner, John John Florence (HAW) for winning the 250,000 Hawaiian Airline miles, Josh Kerr (AUS) for his runner-up finish -- despite an injury earlier in the day followed by a hospital visit.
