Cote's Cube heads to Santa Monica for a Chasing Mavericks "press junket" which is basically a day where the actors from the film gather at a location (in this the case, the beach where Baywatch was filmed) and do interviews with national media to promote the project. We brought along a handful of pro surfers including former world champ Sunny Garcia, Cheyne Magnusson, Taylor Curran, CJ Kanuha, and Ricky Whitlock to help give surf lessons and schmooze the non-surfing media.<br />And while we're always skeptical when Hollywood gets their hands on anything surf related, we have confidence that the film, which is based on the late, legendary Jay Moriarity, will do the sport of kings good and represent Jay to the degree he deserves. Thanks to the brands that donated to the national media gift bags including O'Neill, Sunology, Reef, SOL REPUBLIC, GoPro, vitaminwater, Clif Bar, and RW Surfboards. For the record, the actor who plays Jay, Jonny Weston, is a really cool kid. He's from South Carolina and grew up surfing there so he's pretty legit. He couldn't stop talking about how gnarly he thought Greg Long is, so it's clear that the kid knows his shit.
