Ever wait for a crew to finish work on a skatepark and end up a bit dissappointed and thinking "if only...."? That's the way Tony Chavez and Jerry Burke felt about a certain feature when the addition to the Ballina Skatepark was completed (almost doubling the skateable area of the park), installing a rippable bowl and big banked area with one major flaw. The barrier at the top of the bank seemed to have been just dropped in place with a gap between its base and the bank requiring an ollie to hit it, obviously limiting the possibilities of a barrier. These two quickly took matters into their own hands, quickcreting over the gap. This permitted some additional shredding which previously was impossible.<br /> <br /> Still feeling that there could be more potential to this obstacle, a decision was made to improve upon the first "fix the skatepark" barrier effort. Since Jerry was out with a broken collarbone, Tony recruited me to help finish the project. 4 bags of quicksetting concrete and a few days later, this obstacle was shredded like never before, proving that sometimes taking matters into your own hands and fixing the little flaws of your local skatepark can be very rewarding. The Blackcross Bowl in Basel, Switzerland was built by Pontus Alv and the locals of Basel in one week. Confusion stopped by the DIY spot during the European skateboard Championships this summer, with England's Lovenskate crew, Stu Smith and Ewen Bower, as well as a late night session at the bowl after Pontus' film premier.

Near the end of the summer, there was a 40th birthday skate bbq session at the Siegburg bowl, about 20 minutes south of Köln, Germany. The birthday was for Ingo Fröbrich, an ex German vert pro. There was a mellow skate session to take place with a BBQ but some park authority kook came and told us that BBQing was not allowed. Since we didn't want to risk the rent-a-pig coming back and ruining the session, we moved the BBQ to the legendary Hof, in the countryside in nearby Bonn, which has a small mini-ramp inside an old farm house barn. Within 30 minutes, the BBQ session was relocated from the concrete bowl to the Hof halfpipe and good times went on well into the night. As of a couple months ago, the Hof is no more.
