Chris stopped Reid for a quick chat at The Boardr Series at Louisville. Besides mentioning having fun of course, I love how he puts his thoughts on winning. “It’s not about winning, the goal is to do better than you did last time.” Progression for yourself and your own skateboarding, that’s what we’re here for. And fun! The numbers, rankings, placings, and all that are just bonuses if you do well overall.

The Boardr Series in Irmo, South Carolina was a blast! I wanted to share a moment from there where we witnessed the birth of a new skateboarder. Bluetile Skateboards was giving out complete skateboards to anyone around without a board. I noticed eight-year-old Yi’mir being one of the most excited, so I documented a bit of his experience.<br /><br />A few minutes after getting his board, he came over to me and asked to skate the contest. He had just learned to drop in the day before on other kids’ boards. That was so good to see a kid at the earliest stage of falling in love with skateboarding as we’ve all been through.<br /><br />Yi’mir joins the skateboarding community and starts his climb in The Boardr Global Rankings way down at 7,119th place and it’s all up from here. See you next year, Yi’mir.

Our presentation from our Open House at The Boardr yesterday takes a look at skateboarding as seen from our corner of the world in events. Our goal was to generate some discussion on what we need to do better with or change/add to help get more kids discovering and sticking with skateboarding for life. We'd appreciate your input on the view from your local communities and scenes and what you think will help new kids and parents navigate their way through the early discovery phase of skateboarding so they make it through the bump and turn into lifelong skateboarders, regardless of the segment you end up gravitating towards: events and contests, street skating, lifestyle, etc.
