Formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1994, Wilco is an American band that claims many influences and covers several different genres, including alternative and country rock. Wilco's music and biography span over two decades. The band's lineup had many changes in its earlier years, with lead singer and guitarist, Jeff Tweedy, and the bassist, John Stiratt, being the only two members to remain in the band from the beginning. However, the lineup has remained the same since 2004, with Glenn Kotche on drums, multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone, Mikael Jorgensen on keyboard, plus Tweedy and Stiratt. Wilco released their debut album, "A.M.," in 1995 with a total of eight studio albums in their discography. They were first nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album with their 1998 collaboration with artist Bill Bragg, titled Mermaid Avenue . The band's first Grammy wins were for Best Alternative Music Album, and Best Recording Package, for their 2004 album, A Ghost is Born . Their most successful commercial album, 2002's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot , was rejected by their label and ended up being released on another. This controversy ended up bringing much attention and notoriety for the band. Their latest album, The Whole Love , was released on their own label, dBpm Records, in September of 2011. The release of this album followed a long break for the band during much of 2010; the longest period of time off in the band's history. The band promoted the album by streaming it live on their official website for a twenty-four hour period.
